This grant will support the Creating a Common Language: International Cartoon Art Exhibit at the Flint Institute of Arts. This exhibit is from the collection of international cartoons depicting political and social issues belonging to the Aydin Dogan Foundation of Istanbul, Turkey. The exhibit will include artwork from the 300 finalists of the annual international cartoon competition held by the Dogan Foundation for nearly 30 years. The competition provides artists from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to use cartoons as a common language to promote tolerance and understanding of others. The exhibition will run from September 2012 through December 2012.
