The Black Sash Trust was founded in 1955 by a group of women who were fighting for the recognition of human rights for all in South Africa. It operates seven advice offices throughout South Africa that provide free legal advice and conduct rights awareness programs primarily for poor people. Previous grants supported the grantee to promote socioeconomic rights through rights education, advocacy campaigns, and monitoring government service delivery. Over the past two years, the grantee expanded its reach and offered training and support to leaders of communities on rights and how to assist their communities to access rights. Over the next two years, the grantee will continue to promote effective, comprehensive, and redistributive social protection systems in South Africa.
