This is one of ten grants recommended to state organizations participating in the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative. The Ford, Casey, and Mott foundations created the initiative in 1992 in order to build state capacity for timely, credible, and accessible tax and budget analysis on behalf of low- and moderate-income families. Arise Citizens' Policy Project joined the initiative in 1994 and has grown to be a respected voice on budget and fiscal policy issues in Alabama. During the renewal grant period, the grantee will produce and disseminate analyses on a range of state budget, fiscal, and economic issues, with a particular emphasis on state and local policies with the potential to improve the lives of low-income people. Additional activities planned for the grant period include community outreach and strategic communications. Related to this project is a grant to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which analyzes federal budget and tax policy issues and provides technical assistance to the 41 state organizations participating in this initiative.
