Founded in 1970 as the Lake Michigan Federation, the Alliance for the Great Lakes combines research and policy analyses with citizen engagement to improve the health of the Great Lakes. The organization continues to increase its presence in the region and has staff based in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, and Ohio. With prior support from Mott, the grantee helped implement the Great Lakes Compact, inform the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, reduce regulated and unregulated pollutants in the Great Lakes, and advance protections against invasive species. Renewed general purpose support will allow the grantee to continue these efforts and invest in its own organizational development.
