The University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of the largest universities in South Africa. It was formally established in January 2004, after the merger of the Universities of Natal and Durban-Westville. The Centre for Civil Society, based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, was established to promote the study and analysis of the nonprofit sector in South Africa and the wider African continent. Past support assisted the grantee to teach subjects related to civil society and social justice philanthropy, support community scholars and social movements on matters related to provision of basic services to poor people, and to conduct research and publish on various topics related to civil society, political economy, and environmental justice. This grant will support the Centre for Civil Society to continue with these activities.
