With its origin going back to 1917, the Flint Institute of Music offers the community a wide array of music, dance, and theater instruction and performances through the Flint School of Performing Arts, Flint Symphony Orchestra, and Flint Youth Theatre. A major renovation and expansion of the Dort Music Center, located on the Flint Cultural Center campus, was completed in 2005 to improve the facility to better serve students and patrons. During the past year, nearly 300,000 children and adults participated in performing arts classes or attended live performances, both on the campus and throughout the community. This grant will support the efforts of the grantee to provide high quality instruction and programs for people of all ages and abilities, and continue efforts to diversify and expand audiences.
