Community Organisation Resource Centre

The Community Organisation Resource Centre provides support to networks of urban and rural poor communities across South Africa. The grantee encourages these networks to learn from one another and use their collective power to advocate for support for community-initiated development projects, particularly housing projects, from government and other stakeholders. Past support enabled the grantee to improve the living conditions of people in informal settlements by facilitating various community-driven processes and to establish a network of community-based organizations that represent the needs of poor people. This grant will enable the Community Organisation Resource Centre to continue to support people-driven processes that empower community-based organizations and their leaders and encourage partnerships with local authorities. The grantee will support efforts aimed at improving living conditions in informal settlements and strengthening partnerships with relevant government entities and other civil society institutions.
