The program goal is to promote regional cooperation among journalists that results in more accurate and objective analysis of political, social, and economic developments in the Balkan region. The grantee, the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, is the regional coordination center for a network that includes six other media organizations across the Balkans. The grantee and other network members work together to regularly analyze key transition issues for the public and policymakers, publish weekly reports, and organize training events and public debates. During the past two years, the grantee trained more than 170 local journalists, produced more than 7,000 articles and analyses which were disseminated via its Web site and five different newsletters, launched new special focus pages on its Web site targeting key regional issues, and initiated and implemented regional cooperation programs including a new transitional justice program. The grantee is based in Sarajevo and includes member organizations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Macedonia, Romania, and Serbia.
