The Minnesota Environmental Partnership, an independent statewide network of more than 80 groups, has had a long-term commitment to Lake Superior through its Northeast Minnesota Program. With prior Mott support, the partnership raised the profile of Lake Superior as a statewide concern, helped secure funds for Great Lakes' protection and restoration, improved citizen capacity to protect Great Lakes' tributaries, worked to maintain policies key to Lake Superior's long-term health, and sought to increase citizen engagement in the permitting process for Minnesota's first copper/nickel mine. With renewed support, the grantee will continue these efforts while also building its own organizational capacity as well as strengthening the capacity of partner organizations.
