Afrika Tikkun was established in 1995 by a prominent South African business family to provide education, health, and social services to children, youth, and families by building and managing centers of excellence in South African townships. Its goal is to empower communities to develop a new generation of productive citizens. The grantee has built strong relationships with the business sector and government and has received considerable support from its networks, making it possible to provide world class facilities to marginalized communities. To provide relief and development support, the grantee partners with community-based organizations to ensure ownership and continuity of programs. Past support contributed to the grantee's community centers of excellence, its efforts to build stronger linkages with government departments and businesses, and the development of a new institutional identity. This grant will support the grantee to strengthen current institutional systems, develop a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system, and improve the quality of care at the community centers.
