Community Development Foundation Western Cape

The Community Development Foundation Western Cape was founded in 2007 to strengthen local giving and support the development of poor communities in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It improves the quality of life of poor people in various communities in the province by supporting initiatives aimed at recognizing the communities' potential and assets and using them to meet their own social needs. The grantee enhances leadership capacity in targeted communities to create a force that is able to address community challenges and engage effectively with government and businesses. Support over the past two years assisted the grantee to make grants, provide training and mentorship support, host a multicountry peer learning initiative, foster emerging community foundations, strengthen its organizational structure and management systems, and document its work. This grant will support ongoing efforts to encourage local giving through various local initiatives, improve the grantee's profile, and support a network that advances community philanthropy in Southern Africa.
