Since 1977, Catholic Outreach has been serving the homeless and low- to no-income population of Genesee County. The grantee offers several services at no charge to its clients, including: eviction and utility payment assistance; food and personal items pantry, which distributes nonperishable grocery and hygiene items; and the St. Christopher Children's Transportation Program. The Medical Transportation Program, which started in 1992, transports seriously ill children for specialized medical treatment in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Lansing. The economic downturn has resulted in a decrease in donations and, inversely, an increase in demand for this service. This grant will enable the continued operation of the Medical Transportation Program, which transports over 150 children (and some adults) to 400 medical appointments annually.
