Council on Foundations

Amount: $100,000
Grant Period: 4/1/2012 to 3/31/2013
Program: Civil Society
Program Area: United States
Geographic Focus: United States: United States (At Large)

The 100th anniversary of the founding of the first domestic community foundation in 1914 provides a unique opportunity for the field of philanthropy to demonstrate critical leadership in recognition of this milestone. The Council on Foundations will establish a special project office, which will be responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating, and supporting centennial activities to provide maximum benefit to the communities and to philanthropy. While planning is still in its early stages, anticipated centennial activities may include general promotion of community philanthropy, a global symposium of community foundations, an enhanced fall conference in 2014, the publication of a history of community foundations, and development of tools and resources that will guide community foundations into their second century. The Council on Foundations is a national membership organization of more than 1,700 private foundations, community foundations, and corporate funders.
