The program goal is to strengthen active civic participation in public policy development and implementation in Bulgaria. To this end, the Institute for Public Environment Development will build new tools for public participation based on modern information and communication technologies, increase the knowledge and capacity of nonprofits to use these tools, and strengthen the interaction between the nonprofit and technology communities. In addition, the grantee will monitor government policies and practices and advocate for greater transparency and accountability. Also, the grantee will educate young voters and promote transparency and ethical standards during elections. Established in 2003 with the mission to promote civic participation and democratic accountability in public institutions in Bulgaria, the grantee has worked successfully on developing digital tools for e-government in Bulgaria, increasing public access to key government data, monitoring the implementation of various public policies, monitoring elections, and participating in various nonprofit coalitions tackling corruption and abuse of power by public institutions and corporations.
