The greatest need identified in the field of community organizing is for additional trained organizers, a professional role that demands a sophisticated and disciplined skill set, including the ability to develop and challenge leaders, identify and facilitate training needs, analyze social and economic conditions, learn a community's local history, develop hundreds of relationships across all sectors of a community, and lead critical evaluation and reflection sessions on the grantee's development and work. This grant will provide continued support to the DART Organizers Institute conducted by Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART).
