The program goal is to stimulate greater public participation in decisionmaking and community building in five counties in eastern Croatia. During the grant period, the Community Foundation Slagalica will provide grants, organize training, raise public awareness about civic responsibility, and promote local philanthropy. The grantee will attract individual and corporate donors and design grantmaking programs that target youth and marginalized groups in local communities. Since its establishment in 2008, the grantee has awarded more than 140 grants totaling approximately $240,000 across 90 local communities in eastern Croatia. During 2011-2012, the first entirely locally funded grant program was established in Osijek and made 16 grants totaling approximately $22,000. The grantee also managed two donor-advised funds and launched an Osijek-based "philanthropists club." The foundation is based in Osijek and works in five counties in eastern Croatia.
