About this grant
The Community Organisation Resource Centre works to improve the quality of life for people living in slums across South Africa. It supports movements and networks of slum dwellers to enable them to engage government on the improvement of their living areas. The grantee provides technical support to the South African Alliance of Shack Dwellers International. Previous support has enabled the grantee to assist communities to partner with local municipalities in upgrading informal settlements, support women’s groups to build their income-generating initiatives and contribute to a savings fund, and support the grantee to engage in policy dialogues on informal settlement upgrades. This grant will enable the grantee to continue supporting networks of slum dwellers and building linkages between government and communities. The grantee will also assist communities to develop the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to engage with government on issues related to informal settlement upgrading.
