General Purpose vs. Project Support
General purpose grants provide financial assistance for the full range of the grantee's activities. They are designed to help grantees meet operating costs and grantees determine how the funds will be used. In contrast, project support grants provide financial assistance for specific activities or programs of grantees. Occasionally grantees will be awarded a mix of general purpose and project support to help them meet core costs and pilot new programs.
