/upload/pictures/news/pop/afterschoolremarks.jpgIn July of 2005, Mott Foundation President William S. White received the first William S. White Lifetime Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Education. The award recognizes outstanding work in support of children, families and their communities.

Accepting the award, White delivered a speech in which he highlighted the importance of afterschool programs and their growth in the U.S. and abroad.

His remarks, given at the Summer Institute of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative in Chicago, have been reprinted in the publication Afterschool programs: Giving hope and help to all our children.
