Youth organizers help spark hope in the Motor City

By DUANE M. ELLING

Since 2006, the Mott-supported Harriet Tubman Center in Detroit, Michigan, has been helping community organizers of all ages develop the tools for engaging and empowering residents to create positive social change.

Kayla Mason and Molly Sweeney, two of the center’s youngest organizers, are working with teens and adults in the Motor City to identify local concerns, craft solutions and create sustainable community improvements.

Their efforts and insights, highlighted in the video slideshow below, reflect the leadership role that young people can play in meeting the challenges that face them and their communities. Read more about Mott-funded programs that are helping to develop the next generation of leaders in the U.S. and around the world.
