Portable planetarium thrills and educates students
By MORRIS ARVOY
Since 2011, Longway Planetarium’s portable dome theater has brought the marvels of the universe to more than 3,000 students in the Mott Foundation’s home community of Genesee County, Michigan.
This video highlights how the portable dome allows Longway — a recognized leader in science education since its founding in 1958 — to take its educational shows “on the road” to area schools. Those presentations help expand the academic and life experiences of many local children who might not otherwise visit the planetarium.
The portable dome is an example of how Longway and other Mott-funded member institutions of the Flint Cultural Center are helping to support and strengthen the greater Flint community by engaging, educating and entertaining area audiences.
