Mott Foundation adds program officer for London Office
FLINT, Mich. – The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation has added a program officer to oversee its grantmaking in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. Ross Maclaren, 39, of Ottawa, Ontario, will work out of Mott’s London office as part of the Central/Eastern Europe (CEE) and Russia program area team.
For the past decade, Maclaren has worked for grantmaking organizations in CEE and Russia, including the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC), based in Montpelier, Vermont. Most recently, he was director of ISC’s Russian Far East office in Khabarovsk.
Prior to joining ISC, Maclaren was regional director for ISAR-Central Asia (Institute for Social Action and Renewal in Eurasia), a grantmaking organization located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He also worked for Charity Know How, based in London, which at the time was a division of the Charities Aid Foundation.
Maclaren holds a bachelor’s degree in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in Central/East European and Russian Area Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa. The Mott Foundation, established in 1926 in Flint, Michigan, by an automotive pioneer, is a private philanthropy committed to supporting projects that promote a just, equitable and sustainable society. It supports nonprofit programs throughout the U.S. and, on a limited geographic basis, internationally. Besides Flint, offices are located in Detroit, Johannesburg (South Africa) and London with additional staff in Cork, Ireland. Grantmaking is focused in four programs: Civil Society, Environment, Flint Area and Pathways Out of Poverty. The Foundation, with year-end total assets of $2.48 billion, made 549 grants totaling $123.2 million in 2005.
