Mott Foundation appoints new director of South Africa office
FLINT, Mich. – Vuyiswa Sidzumo has been promoted to Director – South Africa. She has served as acting director since late 2007. In her new position, she will oversee the operation of the Johannesburg-based office.
Sidzumo was promoted to program officer in early 2007; she joined the Mott Foundation in 2005 as an associate program officer. During her tenure, she has focused on grantmaking to promote community participation in local government. Sidzumo also oversees grantmaking that aims to build and strengthen the country’s nonprofit sector, community-based legal centers called “advice offices,” and indigenous forms of giving.
Before coming to Mott, Sidzumo was Director of Donor Relations at the Department of Provincial and Local Government in Pretoria, South Africa, where she was responsible for monitoring and evaluating donor-supported programs. In addition, she has held several positions with the United Nations Development Programme in Pretoria and was a program officer at the Sedibeng Centre for Organisational Effectiveness in Johannesburg.
Sidzumo holds a master’s degree in biochemistry and a bachelor’s degree in science, both from Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa.
