Oil Change International is a research and advocacy organization founded in 2005 that works to encourage progress in the energy industry toward an environmentally and socially sustainable energy future. Oil Change International focuses on reforming the energy-related lending of public multilateral financial institutions, export credit agencies and key private financial institutions. It will pursue these objectives by bringing together a diverse range of groups working on international environment, debt and development policy issues to share experiences and better coordinate their activities; building awareness among the public and policymakers of the need for environmental and social reforms; conducting and disseminating research; engaging directly with decisionmakers at key institutions; and developing better tools to enable both the institutions that finance oil and gas extraction as well as the oil and gas industry itself to incorporate environmental costs and benefits into their decisionmaking.
