Building Nonprofit Leadership Initiative

BoardSource seeks to increase the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations by strengthening their boards of directors, but the organization rarely has the opportunity to work in any one community in a sustained and in-depth manner. The Building Nonprofit Leadership Initiative in Flint and Genesee County is a partnership between BoardSource and the United Way of Genesee County to provide training, consulting, tools, and resources to enhance the governance capacity of local leaders and their service on the boards of many nonprofit organizations. Goals for this project include redefining the community's understanding of what board service means, shifting the culture of board service in Genesee County, increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit boards of directors, and improving board governance practices.
