Kearsley Street Connector

University of Michigan-Flint

Amount: $1,891,588
Grant Period: 3/1/2008 to 11/30/2009
Program: Flint Area
Program Area: Community Revitalization and Economic Development
Geographic Focus: United States: Michigan: Flint & Genesee County

This grant will provide the University of Michigan-Flint with funds to reopen Kearsley Street through the campus. Kearsley Street, a cross street through central Flint, is currently closed to vehicular traffic through the university campus, which results in a perceived and real disconnect between key institutions and neighborhoods in central Flint. The reopened Kearsley Street will incorporate traffic-calming techniques that promote vehicular and pedestrian safety, noise and vibration-dampening methods for nearby classroom buildings, and attractive landscaping.
