The program goal is to develop the potential of primary and secondary schools to be catalysts for increased openness, tolerance, inclusiveness, and participatory decisionmaking in local communities in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia. To this end, the International Association "Interactive Open Schools" based in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina, will work with more than 25 schools in Tuzla, Osijek (Croatia), and Novi Sad (Serbia) to conduct training, create networking opportunities, and provide informational resources to teachers and school administrators, as well as parents and students. The association is part of the broader community school movement in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia that during the past two years has developed comprehensive quality standards for open, community-based schools.
