This grant will provide continued general support to the District Six Museum Foundation. Following the end of apartheid, the museum was created to commemorate this tragic human event and has become one of the country's leading memorial sites and a beacon of healing and reconciliation. The museum serves as a place of reflection and contemplation and community interaction; an institution for challenge and advocacy; and a memorial to courage and dignity for all of South Africa. Through its collections, exhibitions, educational programs, and community gatherings, the museum tells the stories of forced removals and assists in the reconstitution of the community of District Six and Cape Town.
