This grant continues support to the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation to conduct action research, advocacy, and public policy programs for the prevention of community-based collective violence. Recent activities focused on investigating judgments of equity courts, analyzing racial intolerance and xenophobia in selected communities, facilitating community dialogues to ease tensions with migrant and refugee populations, and finding nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts. Future plans include analyzing collective violence due to xenophobia and service delivery protests in the Gauteng province, developing community-based pilot intervention strategies promoting nonviolent resolutions to conflict; assisting the government in developing appropriate policies to deter violent attacks; and disseminating research analyses and case studies. The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation is a South African policy and research center working on various aspects of violence and reconciliation.
