The program goal is to encourage grassroots, civic participation in decisionmaking processes throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. To this end, this grant increase responds to unanticipated opportunities to strengthen the capacity of network members to work with citizens and local communities. In addition to its other planned activities, CEE Citizens Network will organize one or more study visits for members and build mentoring relationships for members with experienced community organizers. In 2008-2009, the grantee developed partnerships with several important European networks and held two annual training events. The grantee also organized events as part of its annual Citizen Participation Week. Initiated in 2001 as a project of the Center for Community Organizing-Slovakia, the grantee registered as an independent organization in 2005. The grantee has 31 members representing 17 countries. Many of the grantee's members are Mott Foundation grantees.
