Sustainability Institute

The Sustainability Institute is a training and learning center that works to facilitate and enhance the sustainability of community development projects. Past support enabled it to design and pilot a training program on principles of community development practice for leaders of community-based organizations. The program uses a combination of face-to-face, distance learning, and online methods and is aimed at building the knowledge and skills of community-based workers who are involved in local development and poverty eradication. An online learning community was established to encourage inputs into the development of learning materials for the program and to create a platform for sharing experiences. This grant will continue to provide support to the grantee to work with a number of partners in South Africa to offer this training program on a national scale. The institute will also expand the curriculum to include basic themes on sustainability.
