Apartheid Museum

The Apartheid Museum is widely acknowledged as the preeminent institution dealing with South Africa's apartheid history. It was specifically established to tell the story of the rise and fall of apartheid, the atrocities and human rights violations committed, the resistance mounted, and the eventual triumph of democracy. In the past two years, the museum held various exhibitions on the lives of antiapartheid activists, including Nelson Mandela. It also continued to attract students and visitors from all over the world to the museum and to train history teachers in Gauteng province on how to teach about apartheid. This grant will continue to support the work of the museum and assist it to introduce new programs. It will also design an interactive exhibition on South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission and encourage visitors to add personal stories of human rights violations under apartheid.
