Seven-Year Plans for Generational Change: An Environmental Partnership Between the United Nations and Faith Organizations

Amount: $50,000
Grant Period: 1/1/2010 to 6/30/2011
Program: Exploratory and Special Projects
Program Area: Special Projects
Geographic Focus: Global: All Continents

This grant provides support for a collaborative effort between the Alliance of Religions and Conservation and the United Nations. Under the leadership of the Secretary-General, the United Nations has established a formal partnership with world faith groups to address issues of the environment and climate change. In November 2009 in Windsor, England, 31 faith groups and 18 secular organizations made long-term commitments to the living planet. Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Daoist, Muslim, Jewish, and Shinto faiths are engaged in creating and implementing long-term plans, offering practical models of constructive civil society engagement on the subjects of assets, education, pastoral care, lifestyles, media and advocacy, partnerships, and eco-twinning. During the grant period, these faith groups will receive assistance on implementing their plans. New initiatives and partnerships among religious and secular organizations will also be facilitated.
