The program goal is to encourage civic initiatives in rural communities in three counties in central Croatia. During the grant period, the Regional Foundation for Local Development Zamah will provide grants, organize training, raise public awareness about civic responsibility, and promote philanthropy. In 2008-2009, the foundation supported more than 80 projects totaling over $220,000. Direct grantmaking was complemented by training and roundtable discussions and work with local businesses and local government officials to encourage transparent and effective funding mechanisms for civic initiatives. In 2010-2011, the grantee will continue to support participatory community development initiatives with grants, capacity building, and technical assistance. The grantee will strengthen its organizational capacities by increasing the number of full-time staff to three and developing a volunteer and membership base. The grantee was established in 2006 and is based in Zagreb.
