National League of Cities Institute

Amount: $200,000
Grant Period: 1/1/2012 to 12/31/2012
Program: Pathways Out of Poverty
Program Area: Improving Community Education
Geographic Focus: United States: United States (At Large)

This grant will enable the National League of Cities Institute, a research, education, and training affiliate of the National League of Cities, to continue to increase the capacity of municipal leaders to lead cross-system efforts that expand education options for disconnected youth. In the most recent phase of this initiative, the grantee assisted 20 cities in developing strategies for improving outcomes for disconnected youth. The grantee also developed an online database of 53 promising city initiatives focused on re-engaging disconnected youth. During the final phase of this initiative, the grantee will identify opportunities to build the capacity of additional cities and municipal leaders to advance local disconnected youth initiatives, continue to document disconnected youth strategies in cities around the country via its online database, and form/support a cohort of learning communities from cities within its network to discuss disconnected youth issues.
