DART Organizers Institute

Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART)

Amount: $15,000
Grant Period: 1/1/2011 to 12/31/2012
Program: Pathways Out of Poverty
Program Area: Building Organized Communities
Geographic Focus: United States: United States (Multiple States)

The greatest need identified in the field of community organizing is for additional trained organizers, a professional role that demands a sophisticated and disciplined skill set, including the ability to develop and challenge community leaders, identify and facilitate training needs, analyze social and economic conditions, develop hundreds of relationships across all sectors of a community, and lead critical evaluation and reflection sessions on the grantee's development and work. The DART Organizers Institute, sponsored by the Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART), has an excellent record in responding to this need. This grant increase will support the expansion of the institute to include two full training cycles in 2012.
