The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation has an immediate opening in its Flint office for a Senior Grants Accountant in the Grants Administration department responsible for processing, reporting and compliance of grants for this large, international organization. This position reports to the Grants Administration Manager.


Responsible for reviewing domestic and international grantees’ financial statements, proposals and budgets for financial stability, accuracy and IRS compliance. Review and maintain legal status of grantee organizations by either performing equivalency determinations or obtaining legal opinions. Oversee the process of expenditure responsibility reporting requirements, maintain required documentation and prepare schedules for the Foundation’s 990PF. Review grantee reports for compliance with grant conditions and proper expenditure of funds. Assist with the preparation and approval of payments. Advise program staff about Foundation policies and procedures related to grant processing. Keep abreast of current trends and practices in international grantmaking. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.


Candidates for this position should have a minimum of five years of relevant accounting experience, solid analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, the capacity to apply independent judgment to complex situations, and the ability to work effectively with people. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. A CPA is required. Tax or audit experience in public accounting and/or consulting and knowledge of tax credit financing structure is desirable, but not required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is a must.
