Brian R. Larkin
Associate Program Officer
A cum laude graduate of Atlanta’s Morehouse University, Brian Larkin credits his service with AmeriCorps as a major influence on his professional life. The Flint native, who returned home after graduation to work as a neighborhood planner for the Genesee County Land Bank, became fascinated with the field of urban planning. He says his most vivid memory of his AmeriCorps service was “meeting residents who were passionate about beautifying their hometown.” After graduating with a Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning from Florida State University in Tallahassee, he was employed by several Michigan-based nonprofits before landing the position of director for Planning and Development for the City of Flint, where he worked before joining the Mott Foundation. Larkin now is pursuing a doctorate in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, but service and civic engagement remain priorities. In addition to serving on the board of the Flint Public Library, he volunteers with a year-round mentoring program geared toward 8-12th grade boys through his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha.
