Based in the Johannesburg office, Mamo Mohapi is the program officer responsible for managing the Civil Society program’s South Africa philanthropy development portfolio. She has a particular interest in youth philanthropy and also serves as the deputy chair of the Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa, a network of private foundations based in that country. Before joining Mott in 2011, Mohapi worked as the business development manager for the Charities Aid Foundation Southern Africa and managed a portfolio of corporate social involvement programs for several businesses. She began her career as the national finance officer at the Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa. Mohapi holds a degree in Cost and Management Accounting from the Vaal University of Technology. She also completed several certificate programs, including a Development Communications program from the School of Journalism at Wits University and the Emerging Leaders Program from Common Purpose. Mohapi speaks fluently in several South African languages, including Sesotho, Setswana and IsiZulu.
