About

Nefertari “Tari” Jones is an associate program officer responsible for grantmaking related to meeting evolving community needs in the Flint area. From growing up in Detroit to her extensive career in education, Jones has always carried an innate sense of justice and a desire to live in an equitable world — one that gives everyone access to opportunities and the resources needed to take full advantage of those opportunities.

Prior to joining Mott in 2022, Jones was director of YouthQuest, an afterschool enrichment program in Flint and Genesee County, Michigan. She has 18 years of experience in education, including seven years in out-of-school-time programming. Jones also spent time working in Connecticut and Virginia. While in Virginia, she was a case manager for adults with mental and physical disabilities.

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University. She currently lives in Flint with her husband, their five children and two guinea pigs. Jones loves to stay connected to her community through service projects. In her free time, she also enjoys forensic science, science fiction and police procedural shows because they spark her critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
