About this grant
This grant supports the Council on Foundations’ international programs, which aim to promote and facilitate responsible and effective grantmaking among its members and to support philanthropy as an essential part of strengthened civil society around the world. Accomplishments over the past three years include the publication of “The Principles of Accountability for International Philanthropy”, the launch of the Philanthropic Initiative for the Americas, the redesign and expansion of the United States International Grantmaking Web site, and work on the Centralized Repository Feasibility Project. Over the next two years, the Council will: (1) maximize opportunities for collaboration, understanding, and learning around international grantmaking; (2) promote the highest standards of accountability, diversity, and good practice for international grantmaking; and (3) advocate for an improved legal environment for international grantmaking. Founded in 1949, the Council on Foundations is a membership organization of private, community, and corporate foundations, primarily in the United States.
