About this grant
This grant supports the Council on Foundations’ Global Philanthropy Program, which aims to promote and facilitate responsible and effective grantmaking among its members and to support philanthropy as an essential part of a strengthened civil society around the world. Accomplishments over the past two years include developing a searchable database on global giving in partnership with the Foundation Center; organizing a meeting of the Global Philanthropy Leadership Initiative in partnership with the European Foundation Centre and the Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support; and working with the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service on approval of a Web-based repository for equivalency determination. Future plans include continuing support for the Global Philanthropy Leadership Initiative; continuing to work on the voluntary guidelines with the U.S. Treasury; and providing general member services to enhance international grantmaking. Founded in 1949, the Council on Foundations is a membership organization of private, community, and corporate foundations, primarily in the United States.
