About this grant

This grant provides continued support for the Nonprofit Public Information Project of the Aspen Institute’s Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation. Until recently, this project had been implemented within the institute’s Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, which Mott has supported to conduct nonprofit research since 1992. Over the past 18 months, Mott funds supported convenings of leading figures in the field of nonprofit research and data which resulted in a consensus to work with government to improve the quality, timeliness, accessibility, and efficiency of our nation’s nonprofit data collection system. During the next two years, project activities will include monitoring new policies affecting the social sector to assess impact on nonprofit data, identifying social sector data gaps and needs, conducting research on the ways in which the federal government and the social sector can work together to improve nonprofit data, and activities aimed at deepening collaboration among the data groups themselves.
