About this grant

The Association of Black Foundation Executives, a membership organization that promotes effective and responsive philanthropy in black communities, is dedicated to the professional development of its members who are staff and board members of philanthropic organizations. The grantee’s current goals are to: 1) encourage philanthropic institutions in Michigan to adopt its Framework for Responsive Philanthropy in Black Communities; 2) increase awareness within the philanthropic community on the key issues affecting black communities and possible investment strategies to address them; and 3) create greater connections among the grantee’s members through regional meetings and targeted communications. This grant increase will support the participation of two membership and development staff in the Council on Foundations’ fall conference for community foundations. Through its participation in the conference, the grantee will develop a more targeted strategy that considers the specific nature and opportunities of working with community foundations for impact in black communities.
