About this grant
This grant will enable the Michigan Environmental Council’s Land Stewardship Initiative to continue efforts to inform citizens, grassroots groups and policymakers about land-use issues and trends and the need for solutions that address the negative impacts of sprawl. The initiative was created in 1994 by the council to unite the environmental community in promoting land-use policy reform at the state level.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include providing policy expertise, research and opinion on proposed land-use reforms; participating in various governmental and stakeholder work groups, task forces, coalitions and research groups relevant to land-use reform; conducting outreach and educational programs to promote land-use reform; encouraging the development and use of statewide land-use goals to stimulate local communities to support smart growth land-use planning tools; and promoting public transit and transportation reform in Michigan.
