About this grant
This grant will enable the Gamaliel Foundation to continue providing capacity-building services to additional communities and organizations. Services include extensive leadership training programs; staff recruitment, placement and development; opportunities for leaders and staff to meet and exchange ideas; and convening groups to work on common issues. The network, created in 1987, includes 60 organizations in 18 states, as well as two in South Africa. Multiyear funding will support activities that include providing services to local organizations; creating new organizations; expanding the metropolitan equity work; working on immigrant rights; and developing statewide structures.During the past year, accomplishments included reorganizing into five territories, with an experienced organizer as the territory director; hosting the annual National Leadership Assembly, which brings together more than 500 leaders; and developing a partnership with the Center for Community Change.
