About this grant

The Grantmakers East Group (GEG) is an affinity group of the European Foundation Centre that works to improve the effectiveness of grantmaking in Central/Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Its main activity is an annual meeting for grantmakers active in the region, providing a forum to discuss issues facing donors and civil society development and to exchange experiences and practical information.Multiyear funding will enable GEG to convene annual meetings. The theme of the 2004 meeting will be “Sustainable Grantmaking,” with workshops focusing on public participation by minorities, grantmaking practices, sustainable funding and ongoing issues such as international development, community philanthropy, cross-border cooperation and the European Union’s enlargement process. A steering committee will meet three times to plan annual meetings.During the past three years, GEG convened meetings in Bucharest, Moscow and Bratislava with an average attendance of 150 persons.
