About this grant
This grant supports an affinity group of the European Foundation Centre to improve the effectiveness of grantmaking in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and to encourage new donor activity in the region. To this end, in 2010 and 2011 the center will organize the annual meeting of the group, called the Grantmakers East Forum, for interested grantmakers and donors working in this region. The center will work with the forum’s steering committee to further develop the format of the annual meetings, secure outside speakers, arrange the venue and other logistics, and disseminate the meetings reports. In 2009 the center organized the forum’s annual meeting in Berlin, Germany, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The annual meeting took place in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in 2008 and Tallinn, Estonia, in 2007. As in previous years, these annual meetings attracted more than 150 participants and provided opportunities for networking and information exchange, encouraged development of new philanthropic initiatives, and promoted good grantmaking practices.
