About this grant

This grant supports an affinity group of the European Foundation Centre to improve the effectiveness of grantmaking in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and to encourage new donor activity in the region. To this end, in 2016 and 2017 the grantee will organize the annual meeting of the Grantmakers East Forum for interested grantmakers and donors working in this region. In 2016, the meeting will take place in Hamburg, Germany, and will focus on the theme of refugees, with a specific emphasis on issues of integration, education, and economic inclusion. The grantee will work with the forum’s steering committee to further develop the format of the annual meetings, secure outside speakers, arrange the venue and other logistics, and disseminate the meetings’ reports. In 2014, the grantee organized the forum’s annual meeting in Palermo, Italy, and in 2015, it took place in Istanbul, Turkey. These annual meetings attracted approximately 90 participants and provided opportunities for networking and information exchange, encouraged development of new philanthropic initiatives, and promoted good grantmaking practices. Based in Brussels, Belgium, the European Foundation Centre is an international association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to strengthening European philanthropy.
