About this grant
For more than a decade, state associations of nonprofit organizations have been providing services and support to local nonprofit agencies. The National Council of Nonprofit Associations was created in 1989 to build a network of state associations of nonprofit organizations and develop their capacity to support community-based organizations. The council works to improve the effectiveness of state associations through technical assistance and training services to develop advocacy and public policy strategies on key issues affecting the U.S. nonprofit sector.Multiyear funding will enable the council to increase member participation in programs; promote the formation of new state and regional associations; encourage more use of the council’s knowledge management system among members and peer groups; maintain current networking activities; and develop a quality assessment process for 20 member-state organizations. Other plans include producing books and directories promoting advocacy and leadership of the sector and hosting a leadership program for state associations.Recent accomplishments included convening state association executive directors for a retreat; developing a peer exchange program within the network; continuing a project that provides technology consultations to state associations; publishing a compilation of best practices; and promoting a proposal to build a national network of federally funded nonprofit centers throughout the country that focus on capacity building.
